My new kia optima SX was sitting in front of my house i bought it brand new it was 10 months old and has 17,000 miles on it and my neighbor came over beating on my door that my car was on fire. I did hear a big boom but i didnt know what it was at the time and ya it was my car.

Fire was put out by the fire department and i contacted kia. It took Kia three weeks to get out to take a look at the car meanwhile tomorrow will be a month with me without a car. They are not trying to blame it on me for changing out the speakers in the doors of the car. Kia will use any way out so they are not responsible.

I thought this car company was suppose to be all about customer service this car company does not care about the customer and after looking into this there has been a few incidents that are similar so basically they are denying it so they dont have to recall a million cars on the road. This is not the end and i am not giving up this company needs to do something for me.

Monetary Loss: $26000.

Location: Brea, California

On May 31 2019 I was driving my 2016 kia optima to work. I pulled into a Sonic drive in to get something to drink when I saw smoke coming from under hood.

Within 4 seconds my car was completely engulfed in flames. I had heard a sound like something exploded under hood and then the flames just sort of whooshed thru the whole car. The policeman and the fire dept could not believe how hot the car got so fast They all said it was probably electical as fast as the fire went. My car was towed to a police impound yard and it took from May 31 to July 19 or 20 for Kia to get out there and pick up my car so it could be inspected by one of their engineers and the fire investigator from Sonic's insurance as the fire did damage to 2 and 1/2 of their drive up order spots.

They both inspected my car on August 15 and now are saying it was caused from oil fill top being left off.

That was not left off and I believe when I heard that explosion noise it probably blew that off and it landed on what was a fender and the heat of the fire melted it into that fender. Kia has several cars that have caught fire without any warning(which I had no indicators go off)and several problems with the malfunctions in the optima due to oil pressure build up which I truly believe caused the oil filler cap to blow off and cause the fire to my vehicle.

My 19 year old son was driving my car last Friday the 13th when it went up in flames. We called about a ticking that same day and was given an appointment for the following Wednesday to see if it would be covered under the extended warranty, and check the oil.

No warning that it could be dangerous or advisement not to drive it. Had it not been nighttime and the glow from the flames easily seen, he had friends or younger family members in the car, or a less experienced driver things would be tragically different. Thank God Bailey has a good head on his shoulders and instinct kicked in. It was only this week that we learned this has happened over 400 times.

After multiple calls and news reports, KIA called yesterday to get some information, only to say they would look into the circumstances. A recall needs to happen for KIA to look at these cars and find out what's wrong. This is the "Hamster" car, it's marketed towards young adults as a fun economical car, which it is until it isn't.

My family loved the car, it was huge on the inside and fun for them to drive, we had not had a problem until that fateful Friday. Please help bring attention to this problem so that something will be done.http://www.nbc12.com/story/3868****/kia-bursts-into-flames-on-288-one-of-hundreds-of-fires-across-countryhttps://wtvr.com/2018/07/19/powhatan-family-wants-kia-to-investigate-vehicle-fire-thank-god-our-kid-is-okay/https://www.wric.com/news/8-investigates/amidst-federal-investigation-of-kia-fires-powhatan-family-s-car-goes-up-in-flames/131346****

Any updates on this?

Just bought a 2013 Rio with 28,000 miles on it on 9/2/16. The car sat in our driveway all last week because we were on vacation, so we maybe put 100 miles on it and drove it 4 times.

Drove 20 minutes round trip to the post office yesterday, parked in driveway and went back into house to work.

Wife came home from work about 10 minutes later and came running in the house saying the new car is on fire.

Called 911 and before fire department was able to get there, the flames were as high as our second floor windows. Car was parked about 10-15 feet away from house, but the heat damaged part of our house as well.

I have contacted insurance, but I really feel this is a Kia issue / problem, and we really should not have to use insurance to replace the car.

This car is still under manufacture warranty, and they need to be held accountable. It seems that with all of the google hits about Kia's catching fire, there should have been a recall on any of the models that have had this problem, and get them either fixed, or off of the road, at Kia's expense.

My Kia Optima 2015 just caught fire in my driveway on 10/5/16. The car sat in the driveway for almost three hours un-driven.

Went out to my car and my key fob would not work but my mirrors were folding up and down. Used my key in the fob to open my door and as soon as I did there was a bellow of smoke coming from under my dash. Up in flames within minutes. Now have a damaged driveway, a totaled car and a mess in my yard of molded burned glass.

Kia has sent this over to their engineers. Will be anxious to see what they say!

2013 Kia Optima EX exploded in to flames while I was driving it down the highway yesterday. 87,000 cars were just recalled because of an issue with a cooling fan starting fire in the engine compartment.

Guess we will see what Kia has to say on this one.

There were zero warning signs, no dash lights or engine lights showing an issue while driving, under 60,000 still under warranty and I bought it brand new off the lot and had regular maintenance performed at Kia dealerships only. Guess we will see what happens, hiring a lawyer tomorrow.

My kia caught a fire with my family inside. Thank God we all got out.

Total loss.

No reason for the fire. Please give feed back.

My 2012 kia sorento spontaneously caught fire and was totalled. I've never seen anything like it.

The fire seemed to originate in the driver's side tail light. The fire started started after being parked in our driveway for 8 hours.

The car alarm went off on the middle of the night. Even I liked out the window to see what was going on, I see the flames!

I had a 2012 for just a couple of hours and was test driving the car and had not signed any paper work on the car and the car caught fire in my driveway after parking it and was engulfed in flames before the fire department could get there.. Now Kias insurance is wanting me to pay 14.000 dollars fr the car and they also forged my name to a paper I have proof so I guess I will be goin to court with them
