I bought a pair of new Kias 5 years ago -- a Soul, and the Sedona minivan. Both are great cars, except not designed for a tough winter (doors freeze, wipers can't remove 1cm of snow, etc...)

The dealer pitched me the Kia Protect extended warranty as a Kia Canada product. It's not. Rather, the Kia name is licensed to it such that even the dealer didn't know. It's like dealing with the most self-interested insurance company imaginable.

Their standard answer to my my 5-star bumper to bumper warranty (the few exclusions are specifically named) is, "it's not covered." Several calls later to head office in Vancouver, it is confirmed as covered, but the communication between them and the dealership results in me paying for something -- the diagnosis, a part that needed to be replaced so the main problem could be fixed -- always something. "Well, we told you we wouldn't authorize the diagnosis until we knew if it was for a covered part." In other words, unless the mechanic takes a lucky guess, you're screwed.

One time I knew it was the brakes so took it to my own mechanic. A caliper had seized and destroyed the disk. They wouldn't cover it because it was not a Kia Dealer, nor would they have covered the disk anyway. However, had I taken it to the dealer at their rates, the disk replacement would have been more than the entire job at my mechanic, etc....

Reason of review: Warranty issue.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Kia Motors Pros: Vehicle quality.

Kia Motors Cons: Extended warranty.

Location: Montreal, Quebec
